An hourly charge of £20.00 applies to the following.
When a search begins it difficult to quantify how long it could take. Research takes time
You may want to research just one particular person. A minimum of 5 hours is recommended. Included in the cost of this service is a presentation, using a quality paper in a spine folder.
The women in your family - this option will of course be of a number of surnames. Research is traditionally on the male line, but the women in our families can be just as interesting.
Do you have a "brick wall" - everyone has this problem from time to time. It may not be solved but sometimes a fresh pair of eyes can help.
Would you like your tree verified? - I approach all research based on the principle that "if I can't prove it, I won't use it". It is frustrating when after hours of research you suddenly realise that you have literally been barking up the wrong tree!
The Commission - when you engage me, the first thing we need to do is to gather all the information you have. It may be very little but it will get us started. I will report back to you as often as you like and may ask questions that you could be able to answer. It is often the case that when research begins and details are revealed that other memories or facts that you thought were irrelevant are helpful.
A complete family tree - both of the packages come with a direct ancestor tree. To include all the family names discovered during research, a full tree can be added. The cost is at £20.00 an hour for the construction plus the cost of professional printing.
There may be occasions when due to a lack of records the search will not be successful. When I have exhausted every possibility we have the options of researching another name.
The time it takes to complete a commission depends very much on the availability of information. A common surname such as my own, can mean research can take more time but I would hope to complete a one name commission in three to four weeks, and four to six weeks for a two name commission.
This work is very much directed by you, and I will do all I can to ensure you get as much information as possible to tell the story of your family.
Kind regards
Marilyn
What started my passion for researching my family over 25 years ago?
Great Uncle Willie.
9th August 1895 – 25th September 1915.
A photograph found after my granddad passed away of himself as a young man, seated with a soldier standing behind him baffled everyone in my family until my uncle told us that the soldier was my grandfather’s brother who had been killed in WWI.
I found it incredibly sad that this man had been forgotten. That started my passion for my family history that over 25 years later shows no sign of abating.
On remembrance Sunday in 2000 I placed a cross at my local war memorial. Eighty five years after his death he was, and continues to be remembered.
